I love to get cheap sunglasses for little girls.  They like to have them to match their outfits, to be cool with their friends and to have a chance to look at the world through a different tint.   Besides making them happy, it is an opportunity to let them learn the path to responsibility.  They learn how to be careful with the sunglasses so they do not get lost, scratched, or broken.  Later if they must wear glasses or if they choose to wear expensive sunglasses they are more prepared to treat these items with care and respect.  They are also less likely to damage the glasses belonging to their friends due to an intense eagerness to try them on.

Most importantly it is an opportunity to teach them about protecting their eyes in direct sunlight.  It is never too early to learn a healthy respect for something that can cause eye damage. While they may be too young to appreciate the protection that wholesale sunglasses give their faces from the harsh wrinkles caused by squinting at bright light, they will hear and hopefully remember later.
