Add a Beautiful Deciduous Outdoor Bonsai with the Mimosa

Nov-5th-2009

The Mimosa bonsai makes for a great outdoor bonsai tree for those looking for a great bonsai that has none of the issues of the full sized Mimosa tree. The Mimosa bonsai is a beautiful little tree, but while some bonsai are incredibly expensive, the Mimosa is actually quite affordable. This makes it a great bonsai for those who have never tried to grow a bonsai before—they don’t have to stress over killing an expensive plant.

This deciduous bonsai, unlike a full sized mimosa, isn’t invasive. Instead of producing hundreds of seeds and spreading all over your yard, the bonsai form of the Mimosa features tiny little pink blooms that are very fragrant. It also has very delicate leaves that look almost like fern leaves. These delicate leaves combined with the silky little flowers make this one of the most beautiful bonsai trees you’ll find. It’s a somewhat hardy bonsai, too, and grows in zones 6 through 9.

Remember when watering your Mimosa bonsai that bonsai trees shouldn’t be watered according to a schedule. Instead, water them only when they need it. You can tell how much water a bonsai has by holding the pot and testing to see how dry the soil is.
